Even though the book of Exodus was written a very long time ago, it is full of relevant lessons for the 21st Century. One example is the theme of liberation and freedom that runs all through this second book of the Bible.
The Israelites' journey from slavery in Egypt to freedom in the Promised Land can be a metaphor that helps us see there is a universal human desire for liberation from oppression, tyranny, and injustice. The stories in Exodus can help us better understand the longing for freedom and dignity that has inspired people across cultures and centuries.
Exodus can highlight for us the importance of resilience, faith, and perseverance in the face of adversity. Despite challenges and setbacks, Moses called on the Israelites to trust in God and look forward to a better future. Their resilience in the face of adversity can inspire us to remain steadfast as we face struggles and challenges.
Additionally, Exodus reminds us of the moral imperative that the people of God have to stand up against injustice and oppression. Emerging as the leader of the enslaved Israelites, Moses confronted Pharaoh and demanded the liberation of his people. This story is about the need for courage and moral conviction in a struggle for justice and human rights. Indeed, years later, Moses points back to how the Israelites were treated in Egypt and calls on them to therefore "love the foreigners among you" (Deuteronomy 10:19)
A Challenge: Let's let the book of Exodus speak to us about the human quest to be free, about the power of faith and resilience, and about the moral imperative to confront injustice. Aren't those topics as relevant today as they were in Moses' day? So, don't write off Exodus as a dusty collection of stories about events that happened almost 3,500 years ago. If we are willing to let God speak to us through the book of Exodus, its 25-35 pages can be a source of profound wisdom and inspiration.

O – Opening seas with a wave of His hand,
