- 1 -- Disciple who betrayed Jesus by identifying him in the darkness of night so he
could be arrested
- 2 -- Judean King who ordered babies massacred, hoping to kill the infant Jesus
- 4 -- Zebedee's son who was one of the Twelve disciples and one of the inner circle
of three at the Transfiguration and in the Garden of Gethsemane; gospel author
- 8 -- Jesus' mother
- 9 -- The Roman procurator or governor who cowardly allowed Jesus to be crucified
even though he knew Jesus wasn't guilty of anything

What is "Synoptic" about the Gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke?
The Synoptic Gospels Matthew, Mark, and Luke comprise a distinctive genre within the
New Testament. They are characterized by their parallel structure, shared content, and narrative
style. The word "synoptic" is derived from the Greek words syn (together) and
optic (view). These three Gospel accounts offer a synchronized account of the life, ministry, teachings, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. They do, however, emphasize different things and write from different perspectives. At the same tim, the fact that they share common narratives, parables, and sayings, may indicate a literary interdependence. The Synoptic Gospels provide a comprehensive portrait of Jesus. They present him as the Messiah, the Son of God, and our Savior while also exploring themes such as discipleship, faith, and the kingdom of God. For the last two thousand years, the synoptic gospel literary genre has been a foundational source for Christian theology, spirituality, and discipleship.
