Short-term mission trip prayer reminders
Prayer cards used by Southern Nazarene University students to raise prayer and financial
support for summer mission trips
Prayer cards are used to remind friends and family to pray for and to financially support
someone going on a short-term mission trip. They can be used as bookmarks or to go on a
bulletin board or a refrigerator. They are a way of getting others to join your support network.
The cards usually include a photo along with brief information about the mission trip and a few
specific prayer requests.
Vangie Stark's prayer cards were printed on photo-quality paper. They were five inches
wide by three and a half inches tall. A small piece of rubberized magnetic strip was attached to
the back
.
Kayla Kratz' prayer reminder
bookmarks were printed on gray
paper. They were two and a quarter inches wide by seven inches tall.
Kristin Moyer's prayer card:
Katie Steel used card stock to create a postal card as part of her support-raising
efforts. Here's what that promotional postcard looked like:
"That glorious movement of the Spirit among the Moravians in 1727 that
transformed them into one of the mightiest evangelizing forces in the world was born in prayer."
— Jonathan Goforth, missionary to China.

Giving out personalized prayer cards can contribute to the fruitfulness of your short-term mission trip in several ways:
- Spiritual Support: Prayer cards provide a tangible way for people to engage with and support your mission trip. By distributing prayer cards, you invite others to join you in prayer. That can create a network of spiritual support to sustain
the team throughout the trip.
- Focused Prayer: The cards can include specific prayer requests related to the mission trip. These may include safety during travel, effectiveness in ministry, and impact on the local community. The cards can help focus prayer on specific
needs and objectives.
- Unity and Encouragement: Sharing prayer cards fosters a sense of unity among team members and supporters. Knowing that you have other people praying for you will encourage your teammates as well as you.
- Awareness and Advocacy: Giving out prayer cards raises awareness about the mission trip. The printed cards provide opportunities to share the mission trip's purpose and goals with a wider audience. That can lead to increased
support and involvement.
- Divine Intervention: Prayer is seeking God's presence, blessing and help. By distributing prayer cards and encouraging others to pray, the team is essentially inviting God to work in and through their efforts.
- Personal Connection: Prayer cards often include photos and words that seek to personalize a connection between the mission trip participants and supporters.
