Afterword
These 36 mini-essays point toward involvement in world evangelism (such as praying, giving,
and going) as an imperative for Christ-followers. The reasons behind that conclusion
include:
Obedience to Jesus' Commands: Jesus Christ directed His followers to evangelize. In
the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20), Jesus instructs His disciples to go and make disciples
of all nations, baptizing and teaching them. As a result, evangelism is an act of obedience for
believers.
Love for Others: Authentic Christ-followers should be motivated by love and
compassion for others since they believe that Jesus Christ offers people forgiveness, true peace,
and a never-ending relationship with the Creator. life. Evangelism is a means to bring people into
this transformative relationship.
Commissioned as Ambassadors: Christ-followers have been called ambassadors for
Christ (2 Corinthians 5:20). That's because they have been entrusted with sharing near and far the
message of how human beings can be reconciled with God. Evangelism would be the right label
for what ambassadors of Christ should be doing.
Fulfillment of God's Redemptive Plan: Since God desires that all people have full
knowledge of the truth (1 Timothy 2:4), Christ-followers must see world evangelism as crucial to
implementing that divine plan.
Expression of Gratitude: Many Christ-followers feel deeply grateful for the salvation
and blessings they have received through Jesus Christ. Sharing the gospel with others is one way
of expressing gratitude to God for His grace and mercy in their own lives.
Preparation for Christ's Second Coming: Matthew 24:14 indicates that the preaching
of the gospel to all nations is a precursor to the second coming of Christ. Thus, evangelism can be
seen as setting the stage for the fulfillment of a biblical prophecy.
