The Chester mystery plays have not been performed until this century for 400 years. The modern re-enactments have taken place in the shadow of Chester's great cathedral. Local townspeople, along with professional actors, present various pageants with the several hours' presentation of the plays. The performance of "The Chester Mysteries" documented here took place in 1992. Chester is a walled town famous for its medieval "rows" and its nearly intact circuit of town walls, which can be walked today.

Epilogue, delivered by Jesus:
Before we go, print these sayings on your mind and heart.
Record them and keep them in memory.
Continue in my word, do not from it depart.
Then shall all men know most perfectly
That you are my disciples and my family.
Do nought without me, let my word be your guide.
Then in your doings you shall always well speed.
For, I am the son of God, the light of this world.
He that follows me walks not in darkness.
He has the light of life, as the scriptures record.
Patriarchs and prophets have told you of this.
Abraham, Isaac and Jacob to my coming bear witness.
To them I was promised before the world began,
To pay their ransom, to become a man.
    If you love me heartily
    And keep my bidding truly
To my father pray will I
    To send his holy ghost.
For we are the holy trinity.
So it was in the beginning, I say to thee.
So it is, so will it always be.
    Amen.
