The
most significant government regulation on religion in America was on June
25, 1962 when the Supreme Court declared prayer in public schools unconstitutional.
Since then, there have been many amendments and other regulations in America
on the regulation on government regulation of religion.
Many
people believe that the Separation of Church and State in the Constitution
is to keep the church out of the state, but in fact, the truth is just
the opposite. The Separation of Church and State in the Constitution
was put there to keep the government out of the church. It is obvious
now that this has been totally mistaken.
Some
examples of the government regulation today is on May 6, 1997, an appeal
was made on a rule that let graduating seniors from Florida’s Duval County
make a 2 minute speech at graduation because some “may use this time to
pray.”
Many
religious organizations are trying to get a Freedom of Religion Amendment
to pass. These organizations include the Christian Coalition, Concerned
Women for America, National Baptist Convention USA, Salvation Army, and
the National Association of Evangelicals which includes many churches in
America. We should be very thankful for these organizations for their
actions in trying to get God back in this country.
