Struggling for a Homeland
The Arab-Israeli
Conflict
Our lives seem to be filled
with struggle. We struggle to pay the bills, the rent, the car insurance,
the tuition. We struggle to get it all done in our hustle and hurry
lives. What we as Americans often fail to realize is that half a
world away, two peoples, the Palestinian Arabs and the Israeli Jews, are
struggling for a homeland.
In a recent survey of 100
college students, only 38% knew that the Israelis and Arabs were fighting
over the land of Palestine, 25% knew Palestine was divided to provide a
homeland for the Jews, and only 4% knew that Benjamin Netanyahu is the
current Prime Minister of Israel. (Survey taken November 1997.)
Perhaps the complexity
of the Arab-Israeli conflict accounts for the lack of knowledge about this
issue. We hope that this web site proves interesting and informative
as we try to increase awareness and understanding about the Arab-Israeli
conflict.
