THEME:
The Wesleyan Philosophical Society announces a call for papers concerning
Religious Experience, a call consistent with the general theme of the subsequent
joint meeting of the Wesleyan Theological Society and the Society for
Pentecostal Studies. Paper proposals on religious experience might include, but
are not limited to, the use of language in communicating religious experience,
phenomenological analysis, the status of the Self during a revelatory event,
doxastic and other epistemological ramifications, limits of credulity, viability
of religious experience in communal discourse, 1st and 3rd person validation
criteria, religious experience within other traditions, miracle as revelation,
information theory and theistic communication, individuation of religious
experience, justifying existence of religious experiences, religious experience
and mental qualia, religious experience and aesthetics, the nature of religious
experience, union versus autonomy within religious experience, and naturalistic
challenges to religious experience.
