The Latest Meeting
In the first meeting of the semester (Nov 1998), Prof. Steve Green spoke to the Independent Society of Religion Students concerning the issue of Narrative Theology. In the discussion, he delineated three methodological approaches: cognitive–propositional, experiential-expressive, and cultural-linguistic. Using the criteria of consistency, coherence, and comprehensiveness, Green feels strongly that that the cultural-linguistic methods is the best approach in doing theology. Strongly heated debate ensued as some students felt narrative presuppositions entailed to relativism. Green, however, argued for a soft perspectivism, claiming that we believe we have a "true" narrative.

New Biblical Studies essay posted
Charles Todd has just posted an exegesis of Genesis 7:11-8:5, illustrating the mythical antecedents, literary composition, historical possibilities and theological significance of the flood story(s) of the Hebrew Bible. In his controversial essay, he argues that the flood is not a historical event; nevertheless, the biblical account offers theological truth to the (Christian) believer.
