"Youth in Mission" is a ministry of Nazarene World Missions which places teams of college young people in ministry sites around the world for eight weeks each summer. YIM is currently directed by Joel Tooley.
Youth in Mission is a volunteer, short-term mission experience for which participants must raise all of the funds to pay their expenses. It is a Nazarene 10% Approved Special program [ more info ] (which means a seal of approval is on it).
Southern Nazarene University participates actively in Youth in Mission by inviting the YIM leadership team to campus in September or October for two to three days of recruitment via chapel presentations and one-on-one interviews.
In the summer of 2008 we will have 16 or so SNU students on Youth in Mission teams in places like Slovenia, Malawi, Vancouver, Thailand, Saipan, India, and Australia. Our long-term goal is to have at least 50 participants from SNU.
Students apply on-line in the fall. Selections to teams are announced by the end of the year. Training begins early in the spring semester with weekly meetings on campus. A week-long training camp in early June catapults the students into their ministry assignments.Reports
