Other People's Houses for Lola
Pamela Bracken
She works and slaves by night and day;
Her duty is the way
To satisfy the hungry ones,
Those seekers who will pay.
The houses shape her daily care;
Her vision – if they dare –
To quench their teeming appetites
With healthy, happy fare
Those domiciles of other lives,
She enters as she drives
The barren bones of others' hope –
The future for new wives.
She weaves the dreams of everyone,
A picture in the sun;
Other people's houses, making
Other people's fun.
